An Awesome course! I love MI in my practice as a spiritual caregiver.
It gave me a feel in a short time that I can do this, that I do know how to do
this and I want to
practice this and best of all, his slowing down his talk /speech and how this facilitates engagement
and mutuality was, well, perfect! We need this with our clients; permission to go
slow even when they
are fast and it helps to keep hearing that!
– Roberta H., LCSW

From the desk of Dr. Stephen Rollnick…
As a young and overwhelmed professional working in addictions treatment, I confronted a confusing paradox…
My clients were both stuck and they deeply wanted to change.
I realized I had two choices: burn out… or figure out how to help people get truly “unstuck.”
So I immersed myself in exploring motivation, communication, and pinpointing how clients move through the Stages of Change toward growth and transformation.
What I discovered didn’t just reshape my career… It reshaped the field of psychotherapy.
My 1991 book with MI co-founder Dr. Miller, Motivational Interviewing: Preparing People for Change, flipped the old confrontational, “therapists-as-experts” model upside-down. We introduced a collaborative, non-authoritative and non-pathologizing approach to facilitating change – what is now known internationally as MI.
Now in it’s 4th edition, much to my surprise and delight, that book has become one of the most widely respected, accessible, and research–supported texts in the field.
Today, my focus is on training the next generation of clinicians—providers like you.
That’s why I created this Certificate training in Motivational Interviewing.
I’ve distilled my lifetime of research, clinical work, and teaching into clear, practical, and immediately usable training modules. And, I’m even offering “office hours” so you can log on on for optional live Q&A sessions with me.
I’d love to answer your questions and share everything I know about therapy, change, and transformation.
Together, we’ll explore what makes change possible—and how you can help your clients transform their lives every single day.
Yours in education,
